Facebook phone verification: a practical guide

Facebook may ask for a phone number when you secure an existing account, confirm unusual activity, or enable a feature that needs an extra identity check. The prompt is a security decision made by Facebook, so receiving an SMS code is only one part of the review.

Use phone verification for legitimate access

Start only from Facebook's official app or website and use the verification flow shown for your own account. Do not use phone verification to create accounts in bulk, impersonate another person, or bypass platform restrictions. Facebook's Terms and local law still apply.

Choose the country and number carefully

Select the same country in Facebook and in the number service. Enter the number in international format and avoid adding the country code twice. Availability changes by country, and Facebook may reject a number or request another form of verification.

Request and enter the code

1. Open the phone prompt inside Facebook and confirm the displayed country code.
2. Open the Facebook verification numbers page and choose a country with available stock.
3. Copy the assigned number exactly, request one SMS, and keep the order page open.
4. When the code arrives, enter it only in Facebook's official verification field.

If the SMS does not arrive

First check the country code and number format. Wait for the current request instead of repeatedly pressing resend, because platforms can rate-limit excessive attempts. If Facebook reports that the number cannot be used, cancel or finish the order according to the service rules and try a different available country only when Facebook allows another attempt.

Protect recovery access

A temporary number is not a durable recovery method. After access is confirmed, add an email you control, use a unique password, enable an authenticator app if offered, and store recovery codes securely. Never share the SMS code with support agents, sellers, or other users.

Understand the boundary

No number provider can guarantee that Facebook will accept a number or approve an account. Facebook can apply device, location, age, identity, and risk checks beyond SMS. Use a temporary number only for a lawful, one-time verification where appropriate, and follow Facebook's Terms and any account recovery instructions it presents.
